Names of business establishments you don't hear of anymore? Lil' Black Sambos (Now Sambos), The Gay Blade ( a

clothing store for men in Oregon and elsewhere, now called The Blade, and my favorite a bowling alley(colored pink, I am not making this up) in Fruitland, Idaho, called the Gayway bowling alley. The first and last time I saw it was in 1978. They used to advertise it in the local newspaper as " bowl the gayway." I think in 1978 backwater Idaho they had not learned that the word "gay" had another meaning. I tried to imagine conservative(I think they lynched liberals) Fruitlanders in Idaho sashaying down the alley, mincing as they walked to the line, with their pink velveteen bowling shoes, getting ready with limp wrist, to release their balls.

Hit and Run Barbershop in Toronto..still there and dangerously so apparently..i've never been in
