Bowling Shoe Help?

Does any one know of any other shoes shoes besides bowling shoes that will give me some slickness but not as much as though shoes. I have a disability and well, they slide way to much for me, but I still need a little give. Can you think of any shoes like that.

Bowling Shoe Help?
while this probably isnt the answer you care to hear and might have already heard about these i jsut want to make sure you got all your bases covered. Dexter makes shoes with soles on them that are velcroe so if you dont slide alot you can but a sole on it that slides very little. you can pick up a pair at http://www.bowlersparadise.com/shop/shoe...
Reply:dexter bowling shoes would be the way to go. Get some SST 2s or something cheap but with interchangable soles and you will be able to controll how much you slide or stick. check out the dexterbowling.com and you can set up a pair of shoes.

Where do bowling alleys get their shoes from?

I know somebody knows where they get them. Short of stealing them from the bowling alley, I don%26#039;t know how to get a pair. I think they are cool in an ugly sort of way. There has to be a site that offers supplies to bowling alleys or something.

Where do bowling alleys get their shoes from?
Try bowling.com, bowlingballsales.com, bowlersparadise.com, dexter.com and circlebowling.com. These stores and manufacturers have bowling shoes that look like the house shoes found in bowling centers. Hope this helps!
Reply:they hire knomes to make them

It%26#039;s so you don%26#039;t leave outside dirt or scuff marks on the wood floors. The bowling lanes have to be very clean and polished for the ball to roll properly,

Can musty smell be removed from leather bowling bag, shoes and ball?

I don%26#039;t think you should put a bowling ball in your washing machine. That%26#039;s asking for trouble!

But I have washed some leather things too. I just put them in the bathtub full of warm, soapy water. I let them soak a bit, swish them around, rinse them twice, hang them outside to dry over the clothesline, and when they are dry, I re-condition them with %26quot;The Tannery%26quot; spray, and let them air for a few hours outdoors.

To make them smell fresh, I spray a rag with Febreeze, place the rag in a plastic garbage bag with all these other items, let it sit a few hours and the musty smell is gone. Air some more outdoors until everything is just as you like it.

N.B. Don%26#039;t spray Febreeze directly on leather items, that%26#039;s a no-no!!!

Can musty smell be removed from leather bowling bag, shoes and ball?
Yes. put the whole lot in the washing machine, yes I said washing machine. Put laundry soap in and wash everything on warm..

I have washed leather shoes many many times with great success.

Have you ever seen a cow shrink in the rain?

A shoe cleaning man in an airport once told me that, because my husband had ( so we thought) ruined an expensive pair of shoes. The shampoo bottle had burst in his suit case and one shoe was soaked in shampoo.

I washed the heck out of those shoes and they lived to be worn for many years.

Just don%26#039;t put them in the dryer

Will you please describe a typical pair of bowling shoes you rent at the alley?

The typical pair of bowling shoes you rent at an alley have been there for at least thirty five years. If the alley is newer than this, then they bought the shoes from some alley that went out of business years ago, who had ultimately bought them from some other defunct alley.

The shoes are typically made of faux leather-like material and have laces that have been through every kind of unimaginalble muck and grime that you can find in the alley, the alley%26#039;s bathrooms, bar, dining room, and anywhere else that someone may have worn them or stuffed them while running out back to get a little (name your vice).

Men%26#039;s shoes in particular have been peed on at least 10,000 times, particularly if the alley has a bar.

The laces you have to handle to tie the shoes to your feet, should you dare insert your feet into said shoes, have been though all the above disgusting stuff, plus are covered with evey germ and bacteria known to man since the last 10,000 people to wear that particular pair of shoes hadn%26#039;t collectivly washed their hands for hours, or more...

You may have noticed the person at the desk spraying someting into the shoes when you either rent them or bring them back to the counter. This futile act is mearly to give you the false sense of security that the shoes are disinfected. In actuality, it%26#039;s to secure the rodent %26quot;pellets%26quot; to the inside of the shoe so that they don%26#039;t come out while you%26#039;re handling or wearing the shoes. All those shoes make a wonderful rodent condo at night when the alley is empty. If you wear an especially large or small size. be especially careful to shake the shoes out before placing your foot into them.

All in all, I%26#039;d say they%26#039;re about as sanitary as any truck stop bathroom, and they work great.

Where can I find inexpensive bowling shoes to buy in or around Hemet, CA?

I wouldnt recommend online, cuz then you cant try them on or anything... I%26#039;m not from your area, actually about 3,000 miles away, lol,.... But, I gotta say the cheapest shoes I brought were at kmart for $3, they were clearing out their bowling section and had everything marked down like crazy... Too bad they only had 1 pair left in my size (i got big feet, size 10, so I consider myself lucky, i got that 1, lol), otherwise I would have stocked up and brought 2 or 3 pairs...

ANyways, seriously though you could probably buy a decent pair for under $30-40... Good brands to look for are dexter, brunswick, etc. Dont buy a no-name brand, cuz then your sacrificing quality... But you can get quality and price, you just gotta look... A good place also is Sports Authority, or any other sporting goods store, you just gotta shop around.... You can also look at your local pro shop, although you may have limited selection...

Do you bowl on leagues at all?? Do you know any other bowlers in your area?? Ask around where they got theres...

Do you use the same bowling shoes for synthetic lanes as you do for wood lanes?

Absolutely.

Most bowling alleys that have been around awhile have converted from wood to synthetic lanes, but the alleys still rent out the old-school red-and-blue shoes from 20 years ago.

While shoe technology has improved in recent years, the basic principle is the same: whether wood or synthetic lanes, bowlers just need to have footwear that won%26#039;t mark, mar, scuff or otherwise damage the approaches on the lanes. Both older and newer shoes meet that basic need.

However, bowling professionals (and fanatics) would argue that the type of shoes you wear is essential to consistency and that little %26quot;extra edge.%26quot; Newer shoes by manufacturers like Brunswick or Dexter (visit bowling.com for examples of shoes) allow the user to interchange their own soles and heels, for maximum control on their approach and delivery. You%26#039;d adjust these if your approach requires a longer or shorter %26quot;slide%26quot;, or more or less %26quot;brake%26quot; after release.

Again, these purists would say that synthetic lanes require different shoes than wooden lanes. But for the average bowler out for fun or developing their game, you can use whatever shoes you feel the most comfortable in.

Happy bowling!

Do you use the same bowling shoes for synthetic lanes as you do for wood lanes?
It doesnt make a difference, the approach area is still the same, so the shoe is still the same, I have never seen shoes marketed differently for different lanes... The shoes the other person mentioned in the other answer with the interchangable soles/heels are for if the approach area is dry or slippery, but really has nothing to do with the lane material..

Do u hav to rent/wear bowling shoes when u go bowling?

Yes you need to wear them. The approach of the lane (the section that is not oiled) is made usually from a synthetic material these days ... they used to be wood ... if you were to wear sand shoes you would %26#039;stick%26#039; and end up on your face or butt.

Also you can mark the approaches and if the centres don%26#039;t clean them regular league bowlers get the s**ts

Do u hav to rent/wear bowling shoes when u go bowling?
You can either buy your own pair or rent a pair at the bowling alley. I would say that if you don%26#039;t go very often then renting is a good option. You may also need other equipment such as bowling bags.

Don%26#039;t get them wet on the bottom, keep them in a bag while your not bowling. If you have to go to the bathroom while your bowling, take the shoes off, or buy some shoe covers to go over your bowling shoes.

How take care bowling shoes?
Wear only in the bowling alley. Use leather cleaner, etc, and most importantly. Wear them only on your feet.

Because the bowling alleys want you to buy the good looking shoes from them. If they gave good looking bowling shoes out as rentals no one would buy their high prices ones.

Why do bowling allies make you wear bowling shoes?

Shoes worn into a bowling alley from the outside could contain small rocks that would scratch the highly glossed wood floors. You will notice that bowling shoes have a nice smooth sole. The floors in a bowling alley are costly to maintain and repair. Wearing bowling shoes minimizes the chance of damaging the floors.

Why do bowling allies make you wear bowling shoes?
they have special tred at thebottom so that you dont slip. they can also make money becacuse most people dont own them

This is an industry trick to make sure that the shoes are so ugly that they are not only identifiable by the ally that owns them, but that the person renting the shoes won%26#039;t want to steal them and want to turn them in to get their shoes back!

Which retail stores sells bowling shoes?

KMart is basically the only retailer (WalMart discontinued selling bowling equipment) that sells Brunswick and AMF entry level bowling shoes.

In any case, if those stores don%26#039;t have what you need, your local pro shop has excellent shoes such as Dexter, Linds, Circle, Elite, Etonic, Ebonite and Master, among others that you can find deals on, especially if they%26#039;re basic types and not high performance bowling shoes.

Keep in mind, you don%26#039;t have to spring for Dexter SSTs or anything like that. Just a basic pair will work for you if you%26#039;re a beginner (which I assume you are, I apologize if that%26#039;s incorrect).

Why do we need bowling shoes? cant we use regular shoes?

Here%26#039;s the deal, a casual bowler who doesn%26#039;t really worry about form at all can probably bowl with regular shoes. But a more serious bowler%26#039;s farm requires a slide on the final step. bowling shoes are made of a few different materials that slide easily on the well varnished floors at the bowling alleys.

I know your question is more about why do we HAVE to wear bowling shoes. That is because regular shoes pick up alot of outside dirt and moisture (be it beer or rain). If it comes off of your shoes and onto the varnished surface, it can majorly screw up any other bowler on that lane because they won%26#039;t get the slide they need.

I know that was long winded and obnoxious, sorry.

Why do we need bowling shoes? cant we use regular shoes?
i always wondered the same question! it makes no sense whatsoever..
Reply:i think for making a grip. bowling shoes must be designed such as 2 increase the friction between the soles and floor for during bowling our whole body weight is on our legs or else should say on our shoes

Can gym shoes be worn as bowling shoes on lanes?

No, gym shoes can damage the surface of the lane. The shoes you rent (or buy if you bowl all the time) help you slide as you release the ball. It keeps you from getting hurt. Hope this helps. Have fun.

Can gym shoes be worn as bowling shoes on lanes?
Given the wear on the shoes, I do not recommend it....most gym shoes are renound for very good grip, where in bowling u need one foot to slide. I don%26#039;t recommend it, as the rubber on these shoes can also mess up the approach on the lanes...your better off wearing normal shoes than gym shoes...my tip, use the clown bowling shoes or buy a pair
Reply:Not unless you want to fall on your face. Bowling shoes are flat with no traction to allow your foot to slide when you take your last step on the approach. If you wear your gym shoes, you%26#039;re foot won%26#039;t slide and you%26#039;ll flop on your face.
Reply:The reson your shoes cant be work on the lanes is that they use a wax to make it slippery. Street shoes can wreck this wax and can also cause you to bail. The bowling shoe has a suede sole and it allows some traction but with the right amount of slide. If you go often you can get your own shoes that are more comfortable and not as tacky. The reason they have ugly shoes is so no one steals them.
Reply:No, You have to rent shoes! That is to prevent damage and create revenue.
Reply:Absolutely! I saw a professional bowler on TV that uses tennis shoes exclusively. Of course he cannot wear them outside, so I figure he bowled with them in out of the box condition. His style of bowling is one where he has no slide. Just calculated steps to the foul line before releasing the ball. I%26#039;ve done the same thing when approaches are extremely slippery. It is possible as long as they were not previously worn out on the street.
Reply:DUDE I WOULD WEAR THE PROPORE SHOES, I WOULD NOT TAKE RISK OF FALLING GETTING HURT, AND GETTING CAUGHT AND STIRING UP TROUBLE, BUT IF IN A PLACE THAT IS NOT SRTICKED WITH RULES AND IT WORKS GIVE IT A GO, HEY ROLL A STRIKE OF TEN FOR ME.

Bowling shoes care?

If I wore my bowling shoes in the parking lot and walked to the bowling alley and back once would that have ruined them?

Bowling shoes care?
Sorry to tell you, but your shoes are ruined. Take it from a pro and buy some new shoes. The dirt and debri outside is now deposited on your shoes and most likely will not come out. There are many things that you could pick up are like rocks and car oil and that is bad for your bowling and the lanes. You are going to get uneven traction on the lane and may slip and fall on your face. Since the bottom of your shoes is made from a felt like substance, its like putting a stain on a pool table. It ruins the felt. So...so you don%26#039;t fall or end up in the middle of the lane, buy some new shoes.

Ok if you do want to wear your shoes from home, which I don%26#039;t advise, then buy some shoes covers. And if you want to try and save your old shoes, buy a wire brush and try to get everything off of them.

PS hope you didn%26#039;t get any bubble gum on them. lol
Reply:Ok, most of you obviously don%26#039;t know what you are talking about. Let%26#039;s see a cloth sliding pad on concrete and a jagged parking lot. Are your shoes ruined? of course they are. Just sliding on a soft approach eventually ruins them, and you guys don%26#039;t think that walking on concrete and possibly dragging your feet is going to ruin the sliding pads? Be serious. It depends how far you walked, but if you want to be safe, and your shoes aren%26#039;t completely totaled yet, you shoes always wear a shoe cover. If you don%26#039;t have one, then buy one in the pro shop. Even though you only did it once, there is a very good chance that u have done some damage to it.
Reply:not really, but if the got wet on the bottom just use a stel brush or something else and that should work..next time put a shoe cover on them
Reply:No it proberly wouldn%26#039;t but to be on the safe side and keep them looking nice i would just put them on when you arrive at the bowling alley
Reply:It will definitely make them unusuable, unless you have the type of bowling shoe with interchangable soles, because the permanent sole shoes cannot be repaired unless you bring them to a shoe repair store.

In any case, with either permanent or interchangable soles, it would be advisable to use shoe covers that slip right onto the bottom 1/2 of the shoe. It protects against dirt, moisture and damage.
Reply:Probably not, unless you walked through a puddle of water or in snow (or any number of things which can damage leather). As long as there is no visible damage to the uppers, I%26#039;d just make sure the soles were clean and free of any debris (pebbles and such). Cleaning the uppers might be a good idea, too.
Reply:Your shoes would not be ruined, the bottoms would need to be cleaned. We have this problem a lot at the bowling alley. :)

You can use a steel brush or coarse sand paper to clean any debris stuck in the soles of your shoes (I prefer sand paper myself).

Also, make certain that there are no small stones or sand stuck in in the heel or other parts of the shoe, as that will damage the finish on the approach at your local bowling center.

If your shoes got wet, wait until the soles are dry before cleaning them and then using them again - for your safety!

Bowling shoes - Stealing them??

Do you think that its wrong to steal bowling shoes? If you don%26#039;t, give me a tip on how I can rob em :D

Bowling shoes - Stealing them??
Yes. Please don%26#039;t steal the bowling shoes from the bowling alley. You are only hurting yourself. If everyone stole shoes from the alley, the alley would have to shut down. Then you will have bowling shoes and nowhere to use them. Most alleys are family owned. Think about it as if it was your family running the alley.

Not to mention that bowling shoes are cheap anyways. You can spend more on a night of actual bowling (paying for the games) then you would on a pair of shoes. I own a bowling supplies website - www.ClassicBowlingSupplies.com. Sign up for the newsletter on my site and you%26#039;ll get a 10-15% off coupon which will make you bowling shoes even cheaper.

Short Answer: Yes - Stealing is Wrong and Against the Law!

Why do you rent shoes to go bowling?

When you go bowling, why do you rent shoes? My husband says it%26#039;s so that you don%26#039;t mess up the floor. Does everyone have to rent shoes or bring their own special bowling shoes, or do some people get to wear tennis shoes? Do the bowling alleys require you to rent shoes? If so, about how much does it cost?

Thanks in advance!

Why do you rent shoes to go bowling?
.

Actually, many advanced bowlers only wear a slide-soled bowling shoe on their slide foot, and a regular sneaker on the other one.

As for those regulations, it%26#039;s not only about scuffing or marking floors, it%26#039;s also about tracking stuff in from outside; moisture, dirt, etc. -- getting that stuff on the approaches is bad news. I%26#039;ve seen many bowlers stick on the approaches, fall, get hurt, things like that. That also happens when people go over the foul line and track lane oil onto the approach.
Reply:renting shoes at the bowling alley isnt expensive less than 5 dollars usually. yeah you have to wear them. the rules. you can buy your own bowling shoes and wear those if you like but no tennis shoes. you wouldnt even be able well with tennis shoes at the bowling alley in order to hit the pins
Reply:he is correct. most shoes will leave scuff marks from the soles, and scratches from rocks, sand, or dirt that is stuck to the soles. bringing your own bowling shoes is ok because you don%26#039;t wear them on the %26quot;street%26quot;. renting shoes is cheap, only a buck or so each visit.(not by the game). tennis shoes would be bad because they would grip too much, and cause you to trip. the soles of bowling shoes are made of a material that is meant to slide a little.
Reply:Every bowling place requires bowling shoes. You can rent or bring your own. You cannot bowl without bowling shoes. They will simply ask you not to play or rent shoes. It is not expensive, depends on the bowling place, less then $10 and maybe around $5.
Reply:I KNO WHY CANT YU WEAR SOME NIKES!!
Reply:Bowling shoes have smooth soft leather on the bottoms that slide on the flooring. You probably aren%26#039;t allowed to wear tennis shoes. If you are really into bowling, get your own shoes. If you are an occassional bowler just rent them. They spray them with a disinfectant, so they are clean. Shoe rentals are usually just a dollar or so . . .

Have fun . . .
Reply:So you don%26#039;t scuff the floor.

Dexter is a good brand for vintage bowling shoes. You can search for them on eBay, or find a pair at your local thrift store fairly cheap. Maybe try asking at local bowling allies to see if they are thinking of replacing some of their older stock. I%26#039;m sure you can find a suitable pair by exploring these sources, and even if they aren%26#039;t in great condition, if you get them for cheap a 10-20$ repair wouldn%26#039;t break the bank.

Bowling shoes and balls???!?

what is the best brands for bowling balls and shoes? my coach says that brunswick (i%26#039;m using brunswick total inferno right now), has more revs than any other bowling balls, but the reaction doesn%26#039;t stay long, and storm ball has more skid (is that true?), and my bowling shoes always stuck at some lane when i%26#039;m sliding (causing the ball goes into gutter). do you have some tips?

Bowling shoes and balls???!?
All brands of bowling equipment are excellent. Most companies have cross branding (Ebonite/Columbia 300, Elite/Brunswick, Morich/Hammer, etc.....) and although have more than one brand name, are made by the same company.

My %26quot;arsenal%26quot; is as follows:

Brunswick Red Zone

Brunswick Twisted Fury

Brunswick Ultimate Inferno re-release

Elite Black Label

Elite Solar Eclipse

Elite PBA Chameleon

Columbia 300 Big Shot

Hammer Black Widow Bite

Storm Paradigm Passion

All these bowling balls react the same, although the entry angle and length downlane into the pocket can be %26quot;tweaked%26quot; by exotic drillings and altering the coverstock by polishing or sanding.

Regarding shoes, I am using Dexter SST 6%26#039;s with interchangable soles and heels and Linds Classics. Having shoes with interchangable soles and heels will help you choose which ones will fit whatever approaches you will be bowling on on any given day, so that you%26#039;ll be able to avoid slipping or sticking.

Hope this helps!
Reply:Each company has a ball that will break hard depending on how you drill it. I have thrown a number of different companies equipment and found favorites with each one. I bowled my first honor score with Hammer (Faball), my second with Ebonite and third with Track. Currently, I%26#039;m throwing Storm and Columbia equipment and seem to have good carry with both. As for shoes, I bought Linds a few years back and will replace them after I bowl Nationals in June. The Dexter%26#039;s I had before the Linds had to be replaced within a year and a half.

Nothing happens to them. They are just like any other leather shoe. Water isn%26#039;t going to do any damage to the leather, you don%26#039;t get worried when it rains on your Nike%26#039;s, do you? The only thing that you should worry about is getting your slide pad wet. If you get this wet, you will not be able to slide at all and you will most likely fall on your face when you throw your next shot. You will want to dry off the slide pad before you bowl again but don%26#039;t worry about getting the rest of the shoe wet.

Bowling Shoes?

I want to buy some bowling shoes, but I know nothing about them. What do you suggest I get? What brand has the best value? (money/quality) Thanks

Bowling Shoes?
I%26#039;d purchase either Dexter, Linds, Circle or Brunswick brands of bowling shoes. All manufacturers have sturdy shoes (my Dexters lasted for over 15 years), and they all have entry level types that start at $29.99 for beginners. It%26#039;s definitely a good investment unless you want to rent shoes at $3-4 bucks each time you bowl.

For right handers, the sliding sole is on the left shoe and for lefties, it will be on the right shoe. There are basic bowling shoes where both shoes will have sliding soles. Hope this helps!

Online, you can purchase them at bowling.com, bowlersparadise.com, bowlingball.com and bowlingballsales.com. KMart also sells bowling equipment at competitive prices as well.
Reply:Go with a pair of Dexter%26#039;s. They offer alot of reasonably priced shoes that are high quality. You can a get pair for anywhere between $40-$160, depending on how serious you are.
