3rd Test Question: put ur shoes in Dravid's boots: enforce follow-on or not? more questions about india v eng
1. Dravid grossly erred in not enforcing the follow-on. India was on top till day 3. English team was trailing by 319 runs. It was virtually impossiible that England could have batted for 2 full days under pressure of that mammoth Indian lead. The fear that India could have lost by enforcing follow-on too was an unfounded one. To do so English batsmen would had been required to score atleat 500 runs at a brisk pace leaving atleast 2 sessions for their bowlers to bowl out India. This means a run rate of more than 4 runs per over considering they had faced approx. 120 overs (90 on 4th day +30 in session 1 of day 5). Was it possible for English batsmen to wipe out 319 runs deficit and score over and above atleast 180 odd runs to set a target for India at run rate of 4+?

By opting for the negative stand that Indian captain and team-managment had taken, they relieved the pressure on England and instead applied the same on their own batsmen, which was evident while they batted 2nd. Dravid himself earned the dubious distinction of scoring 12 runs off 96 balls. It also gave a strong signal to English batsmen that Indian captain does not have faith in his own bowlers and they encahsed this while batting in IInd Innings.

The excuse that Indian bowlers were tired is a white lie. None of the Indian bowlers had bowled more than 20 overs each on day 3. Another 20-30 odd overs could not have made any dent on their shoulders. They also had a full night's rest. At test match level bowlers are xepected to even bowl unchanged for that sort of spells.

Dravid has been known for his weak leadership. He did the same thing in Pakistan when Sachin was nearing his double hundred. Had Ganguly been the captain at this point of time, he would have definitely gone for the kill immediately as it was more than likely that English batsmen may have succumbed under the pressure of 319 runs deficit and India thus could have won the rubber by 2-0 and not 1-0.
Reply:1) Dravid did the right job. All indian players were badly tired and india's aim first was to win the series. So Dravid took the decision to not to give follow-on. He did the right thing i think.

2) Due to Sreesanth's poor form in tests, he was dropped from ODI's too. I think it was wrong to do so.

3)Sorry i dont know the team for ODIs. But i think Ganguly and some other should start.

4) Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Dhoni, Yuvraj, Karthick, Zaheer, RP Singh, Gambhir, Sreesanth, Ramesh Powar...

Plz gimmie 10 pts i need them..
Reply:1. Dravid decision is 50/50 only bcz ,, there is 1 day and 40 overs fully u have and same time England want to chase more 250 runs if they play definitely cross score but they can not able to score more than 350 runs after that we play means u definitely do some thing and win the match ...

In dravid situvation already bowler Bowl more than 120 over after they want bowl another 120 over its so difficult , In this situvation only dravid decide and didn't get follow on ..

2. Its not Problem , Bcz if u want to check some one fitness u must leave some one ,,, After 3 month munuf select for our team we want to check munaf fitness

Reply:How many questions have you asked? "Anyway regarding Dravid's decision I must say he was chickened out. A team under 300 runs deficit could never make it in the following on innings and India lost a great opportunity to go up 2-0. Those who are saying Indian players were tired with respect I would say they are top professionals and highly paid for their job which is to win the games for India. Actually Dravid was contented with 1-0 and played a non professional role in the last test. Had Dravid made a bold decision to put them again it would have been a different story all together but what he did himself in the second Indian innings when they needed some quick runs. Its ok now because India won the series but those who know cricket are agreed that it was a stupid decision not to force the follow on.
Reply:1.He had to enforce the follow on. But it was not happened. If India enforced the follow-on, result would be in India’s favor.

2.Dropping Sreeshanth form ODIs is an irrational decision. Because he is a wicket taking bowler. Even in the ODIs we need to take wickets to win the match.

3.I think Robin Uththapa and Saurav Ganguly

4.

R.Uththapa

S.Ganguly

M.S.Dhoni

S.Tendulkar

2. Yes I think it is right to leave out SreeSant for the ODI's.

3. Depends on the team composition. I would prefer Sachin %26amp; Saurav or Sachin %26amp; Gambhir

4.

Sachin

Saurav

Rahul Dravid

Gautam Gambhir

Yuvraj

Dinesh Kartik

Munaf

Zaheer

Ajit Agarkar

RP Singh
Reply:i think it was wrong decision.
Reply:I think he should have enforced the follow on because the weather forecasted rain in London, but it didn't, which is 1 reason to enforce the follow on. Also India were in a good position. If they got 2 early wickets, Vaughen and Strauss, then India would be in the driving seat. They would have one the game if they did enforce the follow on!!

Sreesanth should have been in ODI's because he is a really good bowler with a lot of spped behind him. And he is tall, which makes it easier for him to bowl fast!! No he should be put in to the India Team. He would be my first choice!!

To open 1st ODI at the Rose bowl should be Jaffer, and Dravid, coz dravid is very good at ODI's and you still have a strong no 3, Tendulkar, then Laxman, Ganguly, and the rest. Oh, Dhoni, maybe him no 4. Not sure about that one?!?

England: Trescothick, Cook, Bell, Vaughen, Pietersen, Loye, Collingwood Prior, Tremlett, Panesar, Anderson!
Reply:i've cramps. let me take one month's sabbatical plz,
Reply:Yes I enforce follow-on, this shows rahul dravid is not vision oriented
